Wednesday night the Rainbows finished up our unit on God made me special. Our final worksheet was a picture of a crown with jewels. So, we used wrapped candy and made a “Special Crown”. Then the kids were supposed to give their crowns to someone they thought was special. The kids all decided on their own who they wanted to give their crowns to… most gave to their moms but a few gave to their Dads and Grandparents.

While we were talking about being special two of the boys in my class, who are 3 years old, recapped what we talked about last week. They told me the story of Samson and Delilah from last week. Boy was I surprised… To finish up our night the kids individually told me the memory verse: Your hands made me. Psalms 119:73. To help remember this verse we played hot potato with a balloon. They loved playing with the balloon. We had a great evening!

We had 11 girls Wednesday night and we are on the Missions unit. We heard a story about a missionary to Africa and made “Huts” as a craft.

Stars finished their unit on The Armour of God with completing their workbook pages. They also took some time to give thanks to God for protecting one of their members from what could have been a serious accident. Many of the girls volunteered to pray for various prayer requests that were shared. God is truly becoming more to these girls than just a distant “entity” but rather a personal God with whom they can share their hearts!

Wednesday night was an awesome night for the Discovery Rangers!  We had a record setting night, the total attendance for the class was 14 boys.  That’s the largest class we have had in the last three years.  Because we had such a large number of boys we couldn’t even do our lesson….shortage of notebooks.  (this will not be a problem this week, I will plan for 14+)

Even though all the boys didn’t have a notebook we still discussed part of the lesson for the week.  The Bible lesson’s title was Kindness and was from the book of 2nd Samuel.  We talked about how David showed kindness to Mephibosheth and then discussed how we need to show kindness know matter how we have been treated.  We had a little fun after going through the story.  I told the boys that if they wanted to play a game they needed to spell “Mephibosheth”.  Even though they didn’t spell it correctly I showed them kindness and let them play a game

The merit we are currently studying is Space Exploration and so we discussed some of the manned space missions that have taken place over the last 40 years.  Then briefly looked at the current space shuttle and talked about how it works.

Like I said it was a great night and we hope to see all the boys again this week.

We had five boys there and we worked on the 23rd Psalm. We had a blast playing with balloons. Plan to work on our Patrol posters next week. We are going to learn the 23rd Psalm. a big undertaking, but I know that we can do it.

On Wednesday we spoke on “Break Free!”, and then we toured the new building.

Middle Schoolers beat the high schoolers in dodge ball.

WOW! We had 9 Rainbows in class on Wednesday night! What a rowdy bunch! It was great to get back after Christmas break. And now it is time to start a new unit: THE TOUCANS! The toucans stand for being Specially Made. Wednesday night we had a great time singing. Then we made a toucan beak to wear, all of the kids added such great color to their beaks! They each made their beak SPECIAL in their own way! Even the kid who only wanted black on his beak! They had a great time running around with them on! They also were very attentive as we talked about being special. And how every single child there was special in their own way! Next week, we will continue to talk about toucans and being SPECIAL!
