We had a great weekend with Jason Bowman March 14 and 15.
On Saturday, Jason met with the men of First Assembly at our monthly HonorBound meeting, at Michael Jennings' home. He spoke regarding the Kingdom of God -- what it looks like, and how to build it.
Then, that evening we sponsored a Community Potato Bar at the Huck Boyd Center, where Jason shared his story of deliverance from a life of addiction to drugs. On Sunday morning at church, he gave "Part 2" of his story -- what God has been doing in his life since he came to Christ 12 years ago, specifically the founding of the New Life Community Church in St. Louis.

Potato Bar/Jason Bowman
We have been praying for months for this coming weekend, and I don't want you to miss out on what God is going to do! Jason Bowman, pastor at New Life Church in Saint Louis, will be with us for an incredible weekend, to top off our "No Addiction is Too Strong" theme that we have carried all winter.
Jason became addicted to drugs at the age of 14, and was a successful drug dealer a short time later. He was a gifted student and athlete, but because he never had to work at any of these things (it came naturally), he became very bored, which led him to experiment with drugs. But God completely delivered him, and he is a living testimony to God's grace.
Tomorrow evening at 6:00, we will have a Community Potato Bar at the Huck Boyd Center. At that time, Jason will share his amazing story. You will not want to miss this. Either you have an addiction, or you don't. If you do suffer from any sort of life-controlling problem, you need to be there to get delivered! If you do not have an addiction, you need to be there for those who do.
Then, Sunday morning, Jason will minister here at church, sharing how God has been using him since he's been a believer.
I hope that you will join us this weekend, as together we share with our community that "Nothing's Too Hard for God"!

"No Addiction is Too Strong"
There are many types of addictions -- substance, pornography, sex, gambling, overeating, even power, to name a few. Often addiction begins with experimentation; justifying the habit only reveals the addiction. Why is addiction wrong? Because of its life-controlling and destructive nature. I. God's desire for us To not be addicted to or mastered by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12), but to be mastered by Him only (Luke 10:27) II. How to overcome your addictions Deliverance; Dependence (on Jesus -- John 15); Devotion (hate the habit, love God); Discipline (takes time to replace bad habits with good ones) III. Your responsibility in the process -- Phillippians 2:12 Acknowledge the problem; Affirm your need of Christ; Affirm your need of others to help you; Account for your actions to someone; Abandon your sins; Amend your ways; Anchor your life in Christ IV. God's part in the process -- Phillippians 2:13 ("It is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose"). Also, 1 John 1:9 -- "If you will confess your sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive your sins, and purify you from all unrighteousness." Do you believe that God wants your free? He will do His part; will you do yours?0

No addiction is too strong
This winter, we are committed to sharing the message with our community that "No Addiction is Too Strong". There are many types of addictions -- substances, pornography, gambling, sex, overeating....we'll even hear a story this winter about an addiction to power.
This Sunday morning, with some help from Rock Solid Youth Ministries, I will be preaching on our theme this winter. Whether you suffer from an addiction, or know someone who does, I encourage you to be here. I am believing that bondages and chains will be broken Sunday morning! That is good news for people who have not been able to find freedom from life-controlling problems: Nothing is too hard for God!
Then, at 6:00 Sunday evening, we will be back in the Book of Acts, with a tough, yet timely message on "Face to Face With Prejudice." Prejudice is a sin that has a choke hold on Christians today, and we will be dealing with that in our evening service.
What an awesome church family I have the privilege to serve! I look forward to seeing you Sunday!

"Absolutely Nothing!"
Jeremiah 32:17 We launched our "Nothing's Too Hard for God" theme last year, and many discovered that 2008 was a pretty rough rear in several respects. But, I want to reiterate, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that is too hard for God! I. Consider His performance This verse reminds us of creation -- if God created the universe, He can certainly handle your problems! All of biblical history is a resume of God's ability to do anything. Modern history tells us that God is still not done doing the impossible. For example, check out the 8 real life stories on nothingstoohardforgod.org. Remembering how God has worked in your personal history is confirmation of what He can and will do today and in the future. II. Consider His promises The Bible is full of promises that He has already fulfilled. D.L. Moody said, "Take the promises of God. Let a man feed for a month on the promises of God, and he will not talk about how poor he is. You hear people say, 'Oh, my leanness! how lean I am!' It is not their leanness, it is their laziness. If you would only read from Genesis to Revelation and see all the promises made by God to Abraham, to Isaac, to Jacob, to the Jews and to the Gentiles, and to all His people everywhere -- if you would spend a month feeding on the precious promises of God -- you wouldn't be going about complaining how poor you are. You would lift up your head and proclaim the riches of His Grace, because you couldn't help doing it!" III. Consider His position, according to our text A. "Sovereign" -- a word reserved for God; He is completly in charge B. "Lord" -- denoting His authority over everthing C. "Great power" -- meaning exceeding strength D. "Outstretched arm" -- there is nothing beyond His reach We need to be reminded of the truth that "Nothing is Too Hard for God". What is "impossible" in your life? Let's trust God today!0

Absolutely nothing!
I am pleased to announce that Sunday morning, I will speaking on "Absolutely Nothing!" You may ask, "What's different than any other week?" (Hopefully not, though.) Or, you may ask, "Why, then, should I even venture out to hear absolutely nothing?" Now, that's a good question that I hope you are asking!
The answer: Only because it could possibly revolutionize your life! I don't like to overstate anything, but we are living in tough times, and I believe that the message Sunday morning will renew your faith and hope in God's power and activity in your life!
Then, we will be at Golden Year Senior Center at 6:00 Sunday evening for our Soup Supper and Game Night. This will be an informal time of fellowship; we would like for you to bring either a pot of soup or some sort of side dish or dessert to share. I will have several games there for all ages. It will be a time that the whole family will enjoy. If you have not yet done so, please sign up at the church to bring either soup or a side dish, or if you would like, you can just reply to me, and I'll put you down (some can never remember to actually sign up on Sundays!!).
Finally, one more item: we are looking to borrow a strobe light for next Sunday. If you have one that we can use, or know of where we can get hold of one, would you please let me know?
Have a wonderful Friday!

Christmas program
I wanted to remind you all, and invite you, to our Kids Church Christmas Program tomorrow morning at 10:30, here at First Assembly. The location is a change from what was published in 1st Assembly Lines. We were originally planning for the Huck Boyd, but in light of tight economic times, have decided to hold the program here at the church instead. The program, under my wife's direction, is called "Once Upon a Christmas", and I believe you will enjoy it!
Then at 6:00 tomorrow evening, we have a very special service planned. There are many among us who struggle to have a merry Christmas, whether it is because of grief, loneliness, financial difficulties, sickness or the like. Our service tomorrow night, on the first night of winter, the longest night of the year, will be designed to minister to people in such circumstances. We invite EVERYONE to join us for our "Longest Night Observance", and if you know someone especially struggling at Christmas time, bring them with you! This special service is the culmination of our outreach this fall to those dealing with loneliness, but all who come will be greatly ministered to!
We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for our Christmas Sunday celebrations!

"No Form of Loneliness is Too Overwhelming"
Sunday, October 26 Loneliness is more than wanting companionship; it is the feeling of being disconnected, cut-off, aliented from people, bringing with it the feeling of emptiness and isolation. Often, loneliness comes from feeling different or rejected. Someone can be surrounded by people, and still be lonely. Surveys suggest that from 20-30% of Americans are lonely. If we locally are a microcosm of America, that means from 1200-1800 people in Phillips County are lonely; from 300-400 people in Phillipsburg are lonely; and from 20-30 people gathered in this room are lonely. There are three types of loneliness: situational (lonely because of something that has happened, such as a move, the loss of a loved one, etc.); developmental (often adolescents are still trying to balance their need between the need to be alone and the need for companionship); and internal (brought on by feelings of self-esteem & vulnerability) I. God understands your loneliness A. Jesus himself was despised and rejected -- Isaiah 53:3 B. Jesus was separated from His Father -- Matthew 27:46 C. Jesus sympathizes with your problems -- Hebrews 2:17 II. God will be your companion A. He wants to be your Friend -- John 15:14,15. YOU are why He came in the first place! And when He left, He sent His Holy Spirit to come and be with us. B. He is committed to this relationship -- Hebrews 13:5; Matthew 28:20; 2 Corinthians 4:8,9 C. There is nowhere you can go that He can't find you -- Psalm 139 D. When you're at your lowest, put your hope in God -- Psalm 42:5-11 III. God chooses to use His people, the body of Christ, to help fill this void A. We've looked this month at the Great Commission, what about the Great Commandment? -- John 15:17; 13:34 B. Let's look at your place in the body -- every part has a different function, and is very important C. The importance of fellowship can't be overstated D. The focus of the church -- working together to accomplish His purposes IV. Your prayer request: that God will bring the people into your life that He wants you to be close to0
Brad and Denise Wicks
Good morning, church family!
This summer, we have been committed to telling Phillips County that "NO RELATIONSHIP IS TOO BROKEN". We are happy this weekend to cap that theme off with a marriage retreat and special Sunday featuring Brad and Denise Wicks, adult ministries pastors at James River Assembly of God in Ozark, Missouri. Brad and Denise have been featured this summer in our radio and TV ads, and their story is highlighted at www.nothingstoohardforgod.org.
If there ever was a marriage that should not have made it, it was Brad and Denise's. Married out of rebellion to their parents, with alcohol and abuse an unfortunate companion in their relationship, Denise finally kicked Brad out of the house. But they were to find that nothing is too hard for God! The Wicks are right now on their way to P-burg to help us communicate that message to everyone!
This evening, from 6:30-9, and tomorrow morning from 9 until noon, we will be at the Huck Boyd Center for a FREE marriage retreat. The registration deadline has passed, but there are still open slots available. If you have not yet registered for this event, reply to this message, or call me here at the church (543-6592) right away. We are also offering free child care at the Christian Church, but you will need to let me know that you need it when you register.
Then, Brad and Denise will be here at First Assembly Sunday morning at 10:30 to share their story. We are believing for miracles in relationships this weekend!
Also Sunday morning, Steven and Chalina Seems will be bring little Ryleigh Adeline to the Lord for dedication. This is a special day for the growing Seems family (can you say, "Waltons"?), and I know they would be honored to have you join them for the occasion!
Finally, at 6:00 Sunday evening, we have a special business meeting called to bring the proposed floor plans for the new facility for a vote. Certainly all members should plan to be here, but we would also like to invite non-members to attend as well. These are exciting days as we get ready to step out in faith and build our new facility to the glory of the Lord!
So thrilled to serve Jesus with you,
Pastor Dave Pugh <><
