Cookout 2009!
Mpact Girls Ministries and Royal Rangers Boys Ministries joined together for an end-of-year cookout Wednesday evening, May 6, at the church. The evening started with an outdoor meal, at which around 160 people were fed. Most of the Mpact and Royal Rangers students were on hand, along with several of their family members.
Burgers and hot dogs were grilled by Lt. Commanders Mike Erhart, Leon Sharp and Don Smith, with Adventure Ranger Ryan Davisson also helping. The side dishes were provided by the ladies of the church. Following the meal, an awards council was held in the church auditorium, in which all the group leaders presented the students with achievement awards for their work during the past year. At the end of the council, special recognition was given to all the adult leaders, and a special offering was taken to go towards something special for this group of men and women.
Following the council, the groups were dismissed to go the church parking lot, where it was announced that the Royal Rangers had won the offering contest for the year. As a result, the boys got two minutes to shoot the girls with water guns.
Wednesday night the Rainbows finished up our unit on God made me special. Our final worksheet was a picture of a crown with jewels. So, we used wrapped candy and made a "Special Crown". Then the kids were supposed to give their crowns to someone they thought was special. The kids all decided on their own who they wanted to give their crowns to... most gave to their moms but a few gave to their Dads and Grandparents.
While we were talking about being special two of the boys in my class, who are 3 years old, recapped what we talked about last week. They told me the story of Samson and Delilah from last week. Boy was I surprised... To finish up our night the kids individually told me the memory verse: Your hands made me. Psalms 119:73. To help remember this verse we played hot potato with a balloon. They loved playing with the balloon. We had a great evening!
We finished our Ladybug unit! YEAH!!! So, for the evening, we focused one last time on "Praising God." We colored the last of our worksheets, sang a couple of songs, listened to a story about a man who couldn't walk and then God healed him and made him walk! He was "walking and jumping and praising God." And finished up the evening with "buggy" snacks and playing toys. All of the kids that were there for the evening recieved their badges for this unit! They were all able to tell me the memory verse with little or NO help!
