Children’s Christmas Program

December 11th, 2009 0 Comments

Good morning!

I trust that you’re all dug out from the “flurries” we had earlier in the week!  Now we are headed towards a warm-up for the weekend before it gets cold again on Monday.

Sunday morning, we have a very special service planned. The Kids Church, under my wife’s direction, will be presenting a program called, “The Symbols of Christmas”. I always love it when the kids get up and minister, and I know we are in for a special morning.  The program will be held at 10:30, following our regular Sunday school hour.

Then, at 6:00pm, we will be going Christmas Caroling!  We will meet at the church for instruction and prayer, then will go to the nursing home, as well as several of our senior citizens’ homes to sing and minister.  Then, we will come back to the church for soup and sandwiches, which will be provided by Sandy Jennings and Rhonda Keesee. If you would like to supplement that with some finger foods, you may feel free, but it’s not expected.  The church will provide coffee, hot cocoa, hot cider, etc.

Looking forward to a great celebration of Christmas this Sunday!

Kids Krusade

July 8th, 2009 0 Comments
I just wanted to remind you that our children’s crusade begins this evening at 6:30, with Nathan, Ashley, and Kyle Jorris of Fort Wayne Indiana as our guest speakers.  I have known the Jorris sibs and their parents for……………….well, a very long time, and I can tell you that we are going to have a great crusade this week!

The theme is “Heroes”, and services will run from 6:30-8:00 tonight through Saturday night, and from 10-11 Sunday morning.  As usual, there will be several contests and prizes throughout the week, with the World’s Largest Ice Cream Sundae following the services on Sunday morning.

Bringing in a team to handle the crusade is something we have never done at First Assembly; we normally do it ourselves.  However, Nita and I felt that our church could use a break from all the work that goes into a Kids Krusade, plus it will be cool for our kids to see something completely different!  Now, having said that, we still need help from our adults and teens!

1)  We need your constant prayer support!
2)  We need adults and teens here each night to sit among the kids, and to help in the altar.
3)  We need people to bring ingredients for the ice cream sundae on Sunday.  A sign-up list is in the back of the church for this purpose.  We will also need people to actually make this sundae at noon that day.
4)  We’ll need you to load up your vehicles and get kids here each night.  The registration tables will open at 6:00 each evening, at at 9:30 Sunday morning.
5)  Our custodian is on vacation this week, so we will need people to stay for a few minutes after each service to help us clean up.
6)  Undoubtedly, there will be “odds & ends” stuff that we will need people to pitch in on, and having you here will be a great help to us.

I look forward to seeing you tonight!

Outdoor Worship Service/Groundbreaking

May 23rd, 2009 0 Comments
This is a big weekend for First Assembly, one that we’ve been looking forward to for some time!  On Sunday morning, we will be breaking ground at the new property for our building project.

Our Coffee Time and Sunday School will be held at the church as usual.  We will then move out to the property for an outdoor worship service and Kids Church, weather permitting.  You may want to bring your own lawn chairs and/or canopies to use.  We will have plenty of metal folding chairs, but, well, you know…

Following our worship service, we will have a ground breaking ceremony.  This will be an act of faith, an act of praise, and an act of dedication.  I hope you ALL will be able to join us for this very special service!

There will be no evening activity this week, due to the holiday weekend.

Blessings,

Pastor Dave Pugh <><

Christmas program

December 20th, 2008 0 Comments
I wanted to remind you all, and invite you, to our Kids Church Christmas Program tomorrow morning at 10:30, here at First Assembly.  The location is a change from what was published in 1st Assembly Lines.  We were originally planning for the Huck Boyd, but in light of tight economic times, have decided to hold the program here at the church instead.  The program, under my wife’s direction, is called “Once Upon a Christmas”, and I believe you will enjoy it!

Then at 6:00 tomorrow evening, we have a very special service planned.  There are many among us who struggle to have a merry Christmas, whether it is because of grief, loneliness, financial difficulties, sickness or the like.  Our service tomorrow night, on the first night of winter, the longest night of the year, will be designed to minister to people in such circumstances.  We invite EVERYONE to join us for our “Longest Night Observance”, and if you know someone especially struggling at Christmas time, bring them with you!  This special service is the culmination of our outreach this fall to those dealing with loneliness, but all who come will be greatly ministered to!

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for our Christmas Sunday celebrations!

Missions Festival ‘08 Continues…

October 11th, 2008 0 Comments
Those who were able to join us last Sunday now know why I look forward so much to Festival of Missions! We’re off to a great start — Dr. Solomon Wang did a FANTASTIC job last week, didn’t he?

Hey, we’re just getting warmed up!  I want to encourage you to be with us this Sunday for week 2.  First, Jay Risner is going to be with us in the 10:30am service.  Jay has been actively involved in children’s ministries for over 28 years.  He served in the professional entertainment industry in the late ’70s, and in 1980, he and his wife took what they had taught and produced in the secular entertainment world and went into full time ministry using their gifts and talents for the Lord.

Jay was a children’s pastor for 10 years before heading to the mission field in 1990 as coordinator of children’s ministries for East Africa. While in Kenya, he performed and produced a children’s TV show that is reaching today over 22 million people each week. He currently oversees full production of the show.  Today, Jay works as Children’s Ministries Specialist International for the Assemblies of God World Missions, traveling across the world training, performing, ministering, and developing children’s ministries in many nations.

Jay is a very gifted communicator not only to children, but adults as well.  I can tell you that we are going to have a blast Sunday morning.  The children will also be upstairs; they will love Jay, and so will you.

Then, at 6:00pm we will have our Speed-the-Light Rally. Speed-the-Light is the missions arm of our youth department (or youth arm of our missions department, however you choose to look at it), providing vehicles, printing and sound equipment for all our missionaries. It is so vital to the overall effectiveness of our missionaries that we are dedicating an entire service to Speed-the-Light!  Rock Solid (our local youth ministry)  and Pastor Donna Toomer will be ministering in that rally, and you will want to be here for it!  Everyone who comes will receive a free gift.

We look forward to having you all join us this Sunday for Festival of Missions 08!
