How to go through fire without getting burned

April 17th, 2009 0 Comments
I have long been fascinated with the account in the Bible of the three young Hebrew men who defied the godless Babylonian government they lived under, and as punishment wound up being thrown into a fiery furnace, yet came out unscathed.

For some reason, I have been unable to shake this powerful story for the last week.  I’m thinking there is a message here for you and for me, so that is what I am planning on speaking about this Sunday morning in our 10:30 service:  “How to Go Through Fire Without Getting Burned”.  We aren’t promised a “heat-free” life, but I do believe God has a plan for us to make it through without even getting singed!  You won’t want to miss it!

Also, Sunday is National Youth Day in our fellowship, and at 6:00, Rock Solid Youth Ministries will be in charge of the service.  I’m still remembering the awesome service the young people put on last year, and can’t wait for Sunday night!  The theme for this year’s youth day is “Extraordinary”, and I’m so glad that God can do and is doing extraordinary things with our teenagers!

I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday!

Passion Weekend

April 11th, 2009 0 Comments
I don’t need to tell you that this is the weekend the church world celebrates the greatest event of history — the substitutionary death of Jesus on the cross, and His resurrection into eternal life.  We celebrate it because of WHAT THAT MEANS FOR US!  If you’ve never really stopped to think about what it means for you personally, you need to join us at First Assembly this weekend.  If you already know about it and appreciate it, and praise God for it, you still need to join us!

We are considering this weekend the last three cries that divided history.  Tonight at 7:00 will be our Good Friday service here at the church.  I will be speaking on “Crucify Him!”, and we will also be enjoying music and drama ministry from Venus Lunsford and the “First Assembly Players”, and will be celebrating Communion together.

Sunday morning at 7:30 will be our Sunrise Service at the church, in which I will be speaking on “He is Risen!”.  That service will also include music and drama from Sheila Jerby and Shirley Mendoza, and will be followed at 8:30 by our Easter Breakfast downstairs.  Several ladies are working together to see that we have a wonderful meal provided that morning.

Then at 10:30, we will join together for our big Easter worship service, with special music from Julie Glennemeier and Sheila Jerby, and my challenging message:  “Go Tell!”.

I certainly hope that being with us at First Assembly will be part of your Easter plans this weekend.

Trusting God,

Palm Sunday

April 4th, 2009 0 Comments
Passion Week begins this week with Palm Sunday, and a series of messages on “Four Cries That Divided History”.  Sunday morning, we’ll look at the first of those cries, “Hosanna!” and how it divided history.  Don’t miss it!

Then, at 3:00 Sunday afternoon is our water baptism service at First Christian Church.  We will be baptizing four people in this powerful service, and you will want to be there to celebrate with us what God is doing in lives!

Now, I’m off to Wichita, where two of our young people will be performing in this year’s Fine Arts Festival.  Pray for Jessica Pugh and Nick Smith this weekend, as you think about it!

Blessings, and we look forward to seeing you Sunday!

Kick Off Rally

April 1st, 2009 0 Comments
I wanted to remind you or make you aware of the big “Wheatland LifeFest Kick Off Rally” this Saturday night at 7:00, at the Huck Boyd Center.  We have been working on brining LifeFest to Phillips County now for the last two and a half years, and it looks like it will now become a reality.

LifeFest is an evangelistic event scheduled for September.  At the Kick Off Rally, you will have the opportunity to meet evangelist Clint Decker, as well as the executive committee who will now be working out the details to make this event happen.

This rally is for all the churches in our community, and I strongly encourage your attendance.  I will be on my way back home from the Fine Arts Festival in Wichita at that time, or I would certainly be there, especially as a member of the invitation committee that has spear headed LifeFest from the beginning.

It is exciting to see what God is doing and will yet do in our midst!
